Landfill gas capture project (PIN)

The project will involve capture of waste gas for power cogeneration or flaring in the City of Blantyre.

    The project will involve controlled dumping of wastes from the City of Blantyre. Currently around 720 tons of wastes are dumped at Mzedi site daily. The council records the amount and type of waste brought to the landfill. 81% of the waste is organic with the remaining comprising metal, rubber, plastic and glass. Wells shall be drilled to extract the waste gas and channeled through pipes to receiving gas heads for power cogeneration or flaring.
