Efficient lighting by replacing ICL with CFL lights (PIN)

The project aims at reducing peak demand and load shedding by replacing incandescent bulbs with CLF bulbs in the household sector.

The Project will involve the distribution of 4 million CFL bulbs to replace six incandescent bulbs (60Watt)per household in the first year to complement the 2 million CFL distribution project already being implemented by the government and later on promote the availability of quality CFL bulbs for the general public to buy at ESCOM. The aim of the project is to reduce the peak demand by at least 50MW and reduce load shedding. In this case the CFL reduced load replaces the Diesel and Petrol powered electricity generation which is used during load shedding periods.
